Nurses and Nurse Practitioner
We have four practice Nurses. Usually
patients are seen by appointment but if circumstances permit, patients can sit
and wait for a gap. In addition to the special clinics already listed, they carry
out a range of procedures including dressings, ear syringes, blood tests, ECGs,
removal of stitches and cervical smears.
We also have a 2 Nurse Practitioners
who are able to see and prescribe for a broad range of recent onset, minor
illness ranging from earache and rashes through to chest infections and back
strains. Our receptionists will be happy to provide a more comprehensive list
of their services.
Our two Health Visitors can
offer advice and health education. They are experienced in the problems of
children, the elderly and the handicapped. They run the mother and health
clinics and can advise on immunisation, child development, and may make
referrals for eye and hearing tests and speech therapy. They also run specific
smoke stop and stress management courses.
The direct telephone line to
their Mitchell Road office is 01202 683311
Our midwife works in close
association with the Doctors and provides care for mothers both before and
after delivery with care of the baby during the first ten days. A message can
be left with the surgery receptionist or she can be contacted at Poole Hospital
Maternity Unit on 665511 ext. 2692 at weekends and on weekdays on 442515.
Our three district Nurses are
available to give home care to patients recently discharged from hospitals,
suffering long term illness, disability, incontinence or the problems of old
age.

with problems relating to housing, residential homes, finance and care of the
young, old and handicapped including home care service, aids in the home, day

Macmillan Nurse and Palliative
Care Nurses are available to offer help and advice to patients with cancer and
their carers who may also be referred to the local hospice for day or
in-patient care.
The school Nurse is a member
of the Primary Health Care Team and meets with the other member of the team
once a month to discuss specific problems.
Mrs Hazel Clarke is our
Practice Manager and she is responsible for the administration of the practice.
She leads a team of some 28 members of staff from receptionists and secretaries
to cleaners. These people are the backbone of the practice, providing the
smiling faces behind the reception desk and working hard to set up appointments,
answer the telephones and arrange repeat prescriptions. Behind the scenes, they
deal with the mountains of paperwork and typing of the referral letters. Be
assured that all information handled by any member of staff is treated
in the strictest confidence.
