History of the practice

The practice was founded in 1962 by Dr A R Attia when the commercial development of the Canford Heath was in its infancy. In 1969, purpose built premises were opened at 9 Mitchell Road with a starting list of 2000 patients.

By 1971 this had risen to 4,500 and a further extension was constructed to accommodate more Doctors. In 1989 a further branch surgery was opened to serve the North and West sides of the Heath. The practice now has in excess of 12,000 patients and became Fundholding in 1992. With the change of political direction, the Practice became a contractor to the Poole Primary Care Trust for supply health care as a PMS Pilot (Personal Medical Services) and in so doing, it hopes to continue to develop its innovative skills.

With the commissioning of the new and enlarged surgery at Mitchell Road in 1998, the original surgery in Brampton Road was finally closed. On two floors and with lift access for the disabled, this has been opened to meet the local heath needs for the New Millennium. The prestige building offers extensive facilities including 9 consulting rooms, operating suite, 2 treatment rooms, chiropody, physiotherapy, a 3 consulting room dental suite, a dental XRay room, optometry and dispensing optical services, 2 Health Visitor rooms, a Practice Nurses office, counselling, child and adult psychology, consultant dermatology, consultant psychiatry and phlebotomy (blood taking) services.

In addition we host a broad range of private alternative therapies including holistic massage, hypnotherapy and counselling.
