Once authorised by your Doctor, requests for repeat prescriptions may be made by post or personally at the Surgery. There is a prescription box in the entrance. Prescriptions may be collected or posted to you (SAE please). Where possible, please allow 48 hours notice. When repeat prescriptions have been set up, you will be issued with a computer code. Please refer to this or, better still, send in the counterfoil from your last repeat prescription, ticking the items you need.
Except for insulin, inhalers, anticonvulsive medication and anticoagulants the GPs at this practice have stated that no harm will comes to you if you miss a prescription for 24-hours. We therefore ask that you allow us time to process an urgent prescription request and not to rush us as this contributes to errors and risk. Apart from those types of medications above, any orders for medication not requested within the usual 48 working hours timescale will not be issued on the day and we will ask you to return to a nominated pharmacy the following day to collect your prescription.
You can now request your prescription via this website. Please note that if you choose one of the options for collection by one of the local chemists these will take 72 hours.
The two local Canford Heath Chemists have introduced a prescription collection service, where you drop in your computer slip to the Chemist and then pick up your tablets from them three days later.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.
